Order Prescriptions on Behalf of Others
Are you caring for elderly parents? Managing medications for children? or supporting a partner with ongoing health needs?
Our prescription management system lets you handle multiple patients. All under one account with proper consent. Add family members or dependants securely. Then order their repeat medications alongside your own.
You control where each prescription gets delivered. Have everything sent to your address for easier management, or arrange direct home delivery to each person’s location.
It’s especially helpful for adult children coordinating care for parents across Maidstone. Also for busy families juggling multiple medication schedules. The patient prescription service maintains full NHS compliance. It gives you the access you need to ensure nobody’s medication runs out unexpectedly.
Check If You Qualify for Free NHS Prescriptions
Many Maidstone residents are entitled to free NHS prescriptions but don’t realise they qualify. You don’t pay prescription charges if you’re under 16, or aged 16-18 and in full-time education.
All adults aged 60 and over receive free prescriptions. As do pregnant women with a valid maternity exemption certificate and mothers of babies under 12 months.
Medical exemption (MedEx) certificate holders receive free prescriptions regardless of age. It covers specific long-term conditions that require ongoing medication.
If you receive certain benefits, including:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
Then you’re also exempt from charges.
HC2 certificate holders qualify for full help with health costs. HC3 certificate holders receive partial help depending on their circumstances.
War Pensioners receiving treatment for their accepted disability. NHS inpatient treatments are also covered.
If you’re unsure about your eligibility, our pharmacy team can check your status when you register or place your first order.
Conditions That Qualify for Medical Exemption
Patients with certain medical conditions receive free NHS prescriptions through medical exemption certificates. Diabetes requiring treatment with insulin or oral medication qualifies immediately. Though patients managing diabetes through diet alone don’t qualify under current NHS rules.
Epilepsy requiring continuous anticonvulsant therapy is covered. Because it is a permanent fistula requiring continuous surgical dressing or an appliance.
Hypothyroidism needing thyroid hormone replacement gives automatic exemption. Ongoing treatment for the effects of cancer or the effects of cancer treatment also qualifies.
Forms of hypoadrenalism (Addison’s disease, myasthenia gravis) and continuing physical disability preventing you from leaving home without help are all recognised exemption conditions.
Do you’ve one of these conditions but don’t have a medical exemption certificate yet?
Then speak with your GP surgery about applying for MedEx certification. Once approved, your exemption typically lasts five years before needing renewal, and covers all NHS prescriptions. It’s not just medication for your exempt condition.
Prescription Reminders & Ongoing Medication Support
Running out of essential medication is stressful and potentially dangerous. Our automated reminder system tracks your dispensing schedule. It sends notifications before you’re due to reorder. This gives you plenty of time to place your next repeat prescription request.
The reminders account for delivery times, weekends, and bank holidays. So you never find yourself on a Friday evening with one tablet left and surgeries closed.
You get updates when your GP makes changes to your regular prescriptions. It can be adjusting dosages, switching to generic alternatives, or discontinuing medications. You’ll see everything in your online account.
Are you managing long-term conditions requiring multiple medications?
Our ongoing medication support prevents confusion about which tablets you should be taking and in what strength.
How NHS Prescription Charges Work in the UK
Each NHS prescription item costs £9.90 unless you’re exempt. If you need multiple items regularly, a Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC) costs £32.05 for three months or £114.50 annually. Thus saving money if you need more than 11 items yearly. Free prescriptions apply to under-16s, over-60s, pregnant women, and specific medical conditions.
Common Reasons Repeat Prescriptions Get Delayed
GP surgeries require 48-72 hours to process requests. Delays occur when prescriptions run out of authorised repeats. Even when dosages need reviewing, or requests are submitted outside surgery hours.
Bank holidays and weekends extend processing times. Occasionally, medication stock issues at pharmacies cause delays. Always order with plenty of time before running out.
Difference Between Repeat Prescriptions and One-Off Prescriptions
Repeat prescriptions are pre-authorised by your GP for regular medications. It allows you to reorder without appointments. One-off prescriptions require a new GP consultation each time. They are issued for short-term treatments, antibiotics, or initial medication trials. Repeat prescriptions suit long-term conditions like diabetes or hypertension requiring continuous medication.
