Who Can Use Mounjaro?

Mounjaro is prescribed for adults aged 18 and over. (Patients aged 75 and over are excluded under this clinical protocol). You’ll need a BMI of 30 or
higher, or a BMI of 27 or above with weight-related health conditions like high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes.
Each patient is assessed individually to ensure suitability, considering overall health, medications, and lifestyle.
Tirzepatide is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding and may be unsuitable for patients with certain thyroid conditions. Suitability will be assessed by the prescriber.
This service may be appropriate for adults who have not achieved sufficient weight loss through diet and exercise alone, following clinical assessment.
How Effective Is It?
- Clinically proven weight loss: Trials show Mounjaro can lead to an average 20.9% reduction in body weight over 36 weeks, providing significant results for patients struggling with obesity when used alongside lifestyle changes.
- Long-term efficacy: Extended studies report up to 25.3% weight reduction over 88 weeks, demonstrating the benefits of continued therapy for sustainable results.
- Dual mechanism of action: Tirzepatide activates both GLP-1 and GIP receptors, which may support appetite regulation and metabolic control.
- Supports lifestyle changes: Best results are achieved when combined with a reduced-calorie diet and regular physical activity, enhancing fat loss while improving overall metabolic health.
- Gradual, consistent results: Most patients see noticeable improvements in weight, appetite control, and energy levels between 12–18 months of treatment, allowing safe and steady progress.
- Targeted fat loss: Mounjaro helps reduce waist circumference and abdominal fat, improving metabolic markers such as blood pressure and insulin sensitivity.
- Appetite regulation: Slows gastric emptying and prolongs post-meal fullness, supporting portion control and reducing overeating.
- Blood sugar benefits: Enhances glycaemic control, which is particularly beneficial for type 2 diabetes or prediabetes patients.
- Flexible treatment duration: Treatment duration varies depending on clinical response and ongoing medical review. Treatment must be re-evaluated if you have not lost at least 5% of your initial body weight after 6 months of treatment at the highest tolerated dose.
- Patient-centred monitoring: Ongoing support from our pharmacy team ensures correct dosing, manages side effects, and tailors treatment for each individual’s needs, increasing success rates.
